November 19- November 25
Evan is now jabbering away, jibber-jabber! He smiles a lot now! It just melts my heart to know my baby is happy and loves to see me smile so he smiles right back! It's so precious! I have caught lots of photos of him smiling these past few weeks. From about 7 weeks on he has been smiling more and more each day. He still keeps his fingers balled into a fist most of the time, but is working on grabbing stuff now. He does love when I wear my hair down, he is like thanks for the climbing ropes mom! I do try to unball his little hands and we count to 5 together! I figure it's good for him even though he hasn't a clue what I am saying, somewhere in his brain info is getting absorbed and stored for later. I sing him his ABCs too now and at the end we say "now Evan knows his ABCs, maybe next time he'll sing with meeee!!!"
I gave Evan his very first boo-boo last weekend actually (techinically this goes under 8 weeks). I was cutting his nails with him lying on his changing table. And he was starting to get fussy, so I am talking to him saying "Evan this doesn't hurt", trying to get him to stay calm and then of course I nip off a piece of skin. I am a liar apparently and made Evan cry very loudly and bleed. I feel just terrible for hurting him! Poor little guy, daddy had to trim him a little makeshift bandaid because we only had regular sized ones. Definitely need to add small bandaids to our first aid kit asap. I know this happens to almost every mommy no matter how careful they are though, squirmy baby fingernails are hard and they grow too dang fast!
This weekend we got our Christmas tree!! And we decorated it right away. It's a fake one that we were given for free! We had a blast hanging up all the ornaments. We have a bunch. And Nana gave us some "Baby's First Christmas" ornaments that are precious!! This is the first year we had a full sized tree of our own. Dan and I's first Christmas in our house we bought a real mini-tree and it was a disaster and shed horribly, I don't think its trunk ever got any water. Also even though it was a mini it was still expensive. The year after that, last year, I decided no tree (gasp!). This year I knew I wanted a tree for Evan's first Christmas and thought we might go for a full size live one, but when a fake one was offered to us we jumped on it! It's so perfect!- now I don't have to worry about vacuuming pine needles. I know most people wait until after Thanksgiving to put a tree up, but hey, we have to makeup for not having one last year! Plus Evan likes to look at it! I also got Evan a Christmas outfit from Target that is red/white striped that says "Baby's First Christmas".
Daddy has caught Evan sleep sucking his thumb in his crib during naptime a few times now! Silly boy! I may not have mentioned this before, but Evan has had a rough time with naps from the very beginning pretty much. When he was really tiny I used to swaddle him and put him in his pac n play to nap, but then he discovered sleeping on me on his belly was much more fun. So now when we want Evan to nap during the day he refuses to sleep on his back, it's always on his tummy, or in his moby, or on top of one us lying on our chest/belly. So if we put him to nap on his belly in his crib we feel guilty about it because it is such a SIDs risk and everyone says don't do it, so whoever is home with him will sit on the floor in his room. I like to work on his baby book on the floor of his room. Evan is so loud when he sleeps you can usually hear him breathing and occasionally he makes grunting noises and he can of course pickup his head to switch sides.
Evan's eyes are looking much greener in color now, they are warmer inside and the outside part still looks kinda slate/dark bluish, but they have definately lightened up quite a bit from birth. And he has pretty long eyelashes now like his daddy (his eyelashes were almost nonextistant at birth - like most babies I'm sure-hardly any eyelashes or eyebrows). And Evan's hair has a reddish tint to it. I am not sure if he will outgrow it, but it really look strawberry blonde sometimes. I am not sure where he got it from?
