48 weeks old

August 19 - August 25

On Thursday I put Evan to work painting another canvas, this one we call "crab" and we hung it up on the wall next to the first one. I laughed to Dan and said, gosh how many of these are we going to end up with! At least they are small. Evan seemed more into getting messy this time, but still only manages to touch the canvas about 5% of the time and that is only because I force it onto his lap - and so Evan's marks on the canvas are just smears from trying to push the canvas away so he can put more paint onto his legs!!! Greaaaattt! We also went to library on Thursday and picked out 6 new books, we decided that 6 would be our lucky number so that we will always know how many we have checked out at one time. Evan is an angel at the library!-he even high fived the librarian! LOL! I think it is the SAME librarian that was there when I was kid! We also went swimming, but we do that almost everyday anyways!

self-portrait, I am getting good at these, one of the only things my lumix camera is good for

This weekend we didn't really do anything special, it was kind of a lazy weekend in pajamas. Saturday I don't think Evan went anywhere at all, just played inside, mostly with daddy. Sunday we ran a few errands and went to the park for a half hour. We saw lots of boats at the bark (on the intra coastal) and a bird, and Evan swang and climbed on the playground stairs, which he thought was very cool!

My little baby is turning into a big boy! I call him a big boy now anyways! He puts himself to sleep in his crib now, he can almost stand for a few seconds on his own. He is so smart. He knows lots of words and phrases, his favorite right now is "birdie", he will look up into the sky for the birds, he loves birds they make him smile.

He loves to play chase in his walker, he likes to take everything out of drawers, opens and closes them. He likes doing anything that makes him feel accomplished. You can tell when he does something new or cool and it is like "aha!" -the light bulb in his brain shines thru his eyes! He climbed the steps at the playground on Sunday and he had that look in his eye. It is so fun to watch him do new things, he amazes us and himself! Oh and one of Ev's favorite things to do is look out windows, I call him our neighborhood spy because in the mornings when he is in our bed (he comes in to nurse and usually cuddles for an hour or so before we actually wakeup), well anyways he smiles real big and then makes a mad dash for the headboard, pulls himself up on it, rips back the curtains, grabs the blinds and tries to peek thru. I help him peek thru and we decide if it is going to be a sunshine-y day or not. It is his favorite thing! Also up there is holding a cell phone or sunglasses or keys though! He has dropped my phone too many times to count, it is pretty beat up.

and about here he got too excited and his little heiny slid right off the chair....
he looks like he is on a roller coaster here and I don't think he was even moving at all!

not impressed, Evan is too cool for swinging apparently...

Here is Evan sleeping in the car on the way to his MRI. (he wasn't supposed to be sleeping...I tried to keep him awake but I failed).

Evan's MRI went very well! He was a brave little boy considering what he had to go thru (read: what we put him thru). Dan and I got to be with him throughout the whole thing, he wasn't out of our sight for a minute, it was actually a relief when I wasn't sure what to expect. The worst part was putting the IV in. When we first arrived we got checked in and they ran vitals on Evan and asked us a bunch of questions. We decided to go with the IV sedation (vs oral) since he had to have a mandatory IV anyways. So we had a very good nurse who got the IV on the first try. Dan and I had to hold him down though while he screamed (I held his legs and looked away), but as soon as it was over I got to pick him up and hold him while the sedation medicine went in and we sat on a couch cuddling until he fell asleep, then they wheeled him over on a stretcher and took him to the MRI trailer, we got to walk next to him and be lifted up into the trailer. Once inside the technician had to situate Evan on the MRI board and position and tape his hand onto a board, which was then put in a tube stuffed with towels so he really couldn't move it. Then they let us sit inside the room, all three of us had to wear earplugs and Dan and I just sat quietly and read while the MRI ran. Then they had the doctor look at it and decided that they needed to use the clarification stuff (the reason for the IV) so they put that in and then ran the MRI again for another twenty minutes. And at the end they took Evan out and he woke up right away. The nurse was right in his face and he started to pout but she sat him up so he could see me and Dan and the nurse handed him to me right away as soon as they untaped his hand from the board. We all walked up to the recovery together with me holding Evan. He had to sit and be watched for an hour or so, he got red fruit punch to drink, it was the sweetest drink he has ever had (maybe that anyone has ever had!) He drank some of it and played a little and had his blood pressure taken three times, and finally it was time to take the IV out and go home! They told Evan would be a bit woozy for the rest of the day and to hold him or make sure he is secure in a stroller or seat so he doesn't topple, wobble, or fall down, they said he would act a bit "drunk. Kind of funny, but we didn't notice anything different about him (???) Nowwe are ready to forget that day ever happened! So glad it went smoothly though! Yay!
